Home-Start Cymru is an independent Welsh charity supporting families during difficult times. We provide early, practical, and emotional help so parents can build confidence, wellbeing, and connection. Our staff and volunteers work in homes, communities, and schools to create strong foundations for children.

Who do you support?
We support families across Wales experiencing a wide range of pressures, including financial strain, mental health challenges, isolation, low confidence, difficulty navigating services, limited support networks, and the everyday demands of parenting.
Families tell us their challenges are interconnected, poverty, neurodiversity, mental health and family relationships rarely exist in isolation. Our approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and never stigmatising. We meet families as people first, not as problems to be fixed.
What services do you offer?
Our services are flexible, relationship-based, and shaped around what matters to each family.
- Home Visiting – Volunteer-led emotional and practical support delivered in the family home, building trust, confidence, and resilience.
- Group Support – Supportive sessions where parents and children connect with others, share experiences, and build skills and confidence.
- Community Support – Helping families access local groups, resources, and services to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing.
- Peer Support – One-to-one or group support with people who have lived experience and understand family challenges.
Do you offer any targeted support programmes?
Yes, alongside our core services we offer:
- Dad Support – for fathers experiencing stress, low confidence, bonding challenges, or mental health pressures.
- Neurodiversity Support – for neurodivergent parents, neurodivergent children, or families exploring assessment pathways.
- Perinatal Support – during pregnancy and after birth.
- Early Years & School Readiness – helping children build strong foundations for learning and development.
- Fuel Poverty & Cost-of-Living Support – non-judgemental support for families experiencing financial pressure.
Is Home-Start Cymru part of Home-Start UK?
Home-Start Cymru is an independent Welsh charity. We are proud to be part of the Home-Start network, but we operate separately, with our own governance, funding, services, and strategy.
Home-Start UK are our membership body who independently assess us for Quality Assurance Standards. They do not provide direct delivery services. Our services are shaped by the Welsh context and delivered in partnership with Welsh Government, schools, health boards, local authorities, and third-sector organisations.
How are your volunteers and staff trained?
Our trained staff and volunteers work alongside parents to strengthen wellbeing, relationships and resilience. Support is delivered in homes, schools and communities, and every relationship is built on trust, respect and compassion.
