Home-Start Cymru Awarded National Lottery Funding to Launch Nature Nurtures Project

Home-Start Cymru is delighted to announce that we have been awarded funding through The National Lottery Community Fund’s Meithrin Natur (Nature Nurtures) programme.

This exciting new project will bring families, volunteers and partners together to explore how spending time in nature can improve the health and wellbeing of babies, young children and their families across Wales.

The funding marks the beginning of an important co-design phase, where we will work closely with the families we support, our dedicated volunteers and key stakeholders to shape a programme that reflects the needs, strengths and experiences of local communities.

As part of the project, we’re proud to be working alongside Wild Blossom Forest School and the University of South Wales, combining practical experience with research to develop an approach that helps families build confidence, resilience and stronger connections through the natural environment.

Rather than creating a programme for families, we’ll be creating it with families. By listening to their experiences and learning from what matters most to them, we aim to develop a project that is inclusive, accessible and makes a lasting difference.

Jayne Drummond, CEO of Home-Start Cymru, said:

“We’re thrilled to receive this funding and to begin this exciting journey with families across Wales. Nature has a unique ability to bring people together, support wellbeing and create opportunities for children to learn and grow. By working alongside families and our fantastic partners, we’ll ensure Nature Nurtures reflects what families really need and helps give every child the best start in life.”

We are now looking for families, volunteers and community partners who would like to help shape the project.
