This short training has been created through a partnership between Home-Start Cymru and Wales & West Utilities. It’s designed to give you — our volunteers — simple, clear messages to share with families that can make a real difference to their safety, well-being, and independence.

You don’t need to be a technical expert. Your role is to:

  • Raise awareness of everyday gas safety risks in a family-friendly way.

  • Share information about free support services like CO alarms, the Priority Services Register, and locking cooker valves.

  • Help families know where to turn for trusted, free, and safe support.

Wales & West Utilities manages the gas network across Wales and southwest England, supplying over 2.5 million homes and responding to emergencies 24/7. Their investment in safety and support for vulnerable households is at the heart of this partnership.

By completing this short training, you’ll gain the confidence to signpost families to services that can help keep them safe.
