At Home-Start Cymru, we understand that being a father comes with unique joys and challenges. We aim to support fathers during pregnancy and in the early years of their child’s life, helping them build positive relationships, manage stress, and access the right support when they need it.

How We Support Fathers

Our support focuses on three key areas:

1. Bonding and Attachment

  • Guidance on forming strong, healthy connections with your baby.
  • Practical tips to help you engage confidently in your child’s development.

2. Mental Health and Wellbeing

  • Advice and peer support to help manage anxiety, stress, and emotional challenges.
  • A safe, non-judgemental space to talk about your experiences as a father.

3. Signposting to Services

Helping dads access parenting groups, counselling, and other resources tailored to their needs.

Connecting fathers to local services and organisations that can provide specialist advice or support

Peer Support and Community

Our support is led by trained coordinators and volunteers who understand the challenges of fatherhood. We provide a forum for fathers to share experiences, ask questions, and receive guidance from others who have been through similar situations.

Home-Start Cymru is part of a wider network, which previously included Dad Matters Cymru, a programme designed to promote positive father involvement and wellbeing across Wales. Discussions are ongoing about developing similar schemes in the future to continue supporting fathers.

What We Are Not

  • A mental health crisis service
  • Clinical or relationship experts
  • A substitute for professional medical advice
